Q & A

We've put together a list of frequently asked questions.  If you find you have a question that is not listed, contact us today!

  • Can I visit the program?  Due to new procedures in response to COVID-19, we are not able to have visitors in the building during HEART.  Please contact us for more information.
  • Do I need to stay on campus while my child attends H.E.A.R.T.?  One of the unique aspects of H.E.A.R.T. is that it is a "drop off" program.  Unless you are scheduled to volunteer, you are not able to stay on campus for the 2020/2021 year.
  • Where are you located?  We meet at the Village Church of Barrington near downtown Barrington.
  • We don't live in Barrington.  Are there any families who are a part of H.E.A.R.T. who do not live in Barrington?  Yes!  Our families come from all over: Algonquin, Arlington Heights, Carpentersville, Chicago, Crystal Lake, Deer Park, East Dundee, Fox River Grove, Gilberts, Grayslake, Gurnee, Hampshire, Hawthorne Woods, Hoffman Estes, Huntley, Inverness, Itasca, Kildeer, Lake Bluff, Lake in the Hills, Lake Villa, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Lindenhurst, Long Grove, McHenry, Mundelein, Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Romeoville, Round Lake, Schaumburg, Village of Lakewood, Wauconda, Wheeling, and Wonder Lake.
  • Does my child have to attend Classical Consortium to attend H.E.A.R.T.?  No, but there are students who choose to take part in both programs.
  • My child is not academically the same as his peers.  Where will he be placed at H.E.A.R.T.?  We place a high value on children being in the same class as their same-age peers.  We do this so the physical, emotional, and social development is more or less the same in the class.  Whether a child can read (or not read!) has no bearing on where he or she will be placed.
  • How do the volunteer hours work?  If a child is in Pre-K/K-3rd grade the parent will "owe" 15 hours for that student.  The parent of a student in 4th-8th grade "owes" 7 hours.  So if a parent had a 2nd grader and a 7th grader, the parent would need to volunteer 22 hours over the course of the school year.  Volunteers help keep our program running smoothly!
  • What if I can't volunteer?  We understand that some parents find it easiest to work on Thursdays while their children are at H.E.A.R.T. or want to take that day to be at home and focus on their littlest ones.  In that case, you can choose to pay to not volunteer.  This money then goes toward a scholarship to help families who are able to volunteer more.

Why Homeschool?

"Why homeschool" is a question we sometimes get asked as parents try to research the best option for their child.  "It seems like a lot of work", "Is it worth it?"  "I can't do this…".
We've asked our parents to share a piece of advise for parents beginning their homeschool journey...

"Don't give up if you have truly decided that homeschooling is what is BEST for your family or child. Always remember your end goal, and the reasons you decided to homeschool.  We all want to give up on many days because it is hard and can be lacking instant reward.  But hard work produces fruit! Decisions on education for your children are important.  Make your decisions carefully and be confident in what you have decided."

"Homeschooling is such a blessing.  To be intentionally invested in the children's schooling which includes Biblical training is fantastic.  At times, it requires perseverance (Romans 5:4), but it's so worth it, especially at a young age when God is developing their hearts and worldview."
